Noblesville leaders have broken ground on the extension of the Riverwalk Trail’s southern portion. This portion of the Riverwalk will add 1,530 feet of 8-foot-wide trail from Division Street to Southside Park. Midwest Paving will complete the project this summer.
“Our residents place a high value on trails both for connectivity and for the enjoyment of nature, and this section of the Riverwalk provides both,” said Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear. “Once completed, the Riverwalk will connect two of our city parks as it will run from Southside to Forest parks.”
In 2016, the city created the southern portion of Riverwalk trail behind Riverside Cemetery that connected Maple Avenue to Division Street. Beneath the trail pavement, 1,100 feet of 60-inch conveyance sewer pipe was buried as part of Noblesville Utilities’ Long Term Control Plan to reduce or eliminate any combined sewer overflow to the city’s treatment plant. This portion of the trail connects with the existing Riverwalk along the downtown bank of the White River.
“The initial southern extension provided a picturesque view of the White River and its benches have provided patrons the opportunity to sit back and view nature and wildlife,” said Ditslear. “This portion provides Southwest Quad residents with easier pedestrian access to downtown and extends this highly-used amenity.”
Riverwalk Phase IV is the third major trail project the city has begun in 2019. Levee Trail and Midland Trace Trail Phase III each broke ground earlier this month. Noblesville will surpass 100 total miles of trails in the city this year.
