Firework Safety & Tips

The Noblesville Fire Department urges citizens to be safe when using consumer fireworks.

From January 1, 2006 through July 31, 2006, the State of Indiana tracked 251 unduplicated cases of firework-related injuries, with 55% percent of those cases involving children. Burns were the most common type of injury, and sparklers were at the top of the list for the type of device associated with injuries, followed by rockets and firecrackers.

REMINDER OF CONSUMER FIREWORKS ORDINANCE IN THE CITY OF NOBLESVILLE

The City of Noblesville updated its restrictions regarding fireworks usage within city limits on February 10, 2009. Ordinance #3-1-09 revised the Noblesville Fire Prevention Code by adopting changes approved by the Indiana General Assembly under Indiana Code 22-11-14-10.5. The City of Noblesville's fireworks ordinance states that consumer fireworks may only be used in the Noblesville city limits during the following days and times:

a.       Between the hours of 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8, and July 9.

b.      Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 midnight on July 4

c.       Between the hours of 10 a.m. on December 31 and 1 a.m. on January 1.

Both fire and police chiefs support the fireworks ordinance in the interest of public safety and quality of life based on: 1) Statistics provided from the Indiana State Injury Report, 2) concerned citizens who expressed their support for a change in the ordinance, and 3) between one to three major structure fires occur in Noblesville every year as a result of consumer fireworks.
